Work underway on new 3G Pitch
Hull KR Foundation is delighted to announce that work has begun on the new multi-purpose 3G pitch, located at Sewell Group Craven Park.
The pitch is a unique football and rugby league hybrid project led by the Hull KR Foundation in partnership with the Football Foundation, Bernard Sunley Foundation, Sport England’s Rugby League World Cup fund and Dr Paul Sewell OBE. The facility will further the Foundation’s mission to engage and improve the lives within the communities across Hull and the East Riding.
As part of the new facility’s remit, the pitch will host a range of teams, including local community football and rugby league clubs, women’s teams of all ages, learning disability and physical disability teams alongside alternative education provisions.
In hosting a range of teams and activities, the 3G pitch will allow all-year-round activity to take place at Sewell Group Craven Park and include a small spectator stand as part of the new facility. The projected timeline of construction is August to December, with regular updates being available in the future.
Earlier today, Hull KR Foundation hosted a special ground breaking event, officially starting work on the new multi-purpose 3G pitch. The event featured special guest speakers, Chair of Hull KR Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Gary Sainty along with Karl Turner MP, Dr. Paul Sewell OBE and Councillor, Rob Pritchard as they discussed the importance of the project to East Hull and its wider communities.
Hull KR Foundation Chief Executive, Paul Hamnett is excited to explore the benefits of the 3G pitch and hopes to build relationships with the local community and increase participation in physical activity.
‘Having this amazing community facility will support and expand the work of the Foundation. We will be able to connect with more people from across the area and have space to develop new opportunities throughout the year.
‘We will work closely with partner clubs, both rugby and football, to increase participation and ensure the community can access the facility. This unique collaboration between football and rugby league will potentially be the first of many across the country and we are proud to be the pioneers, in partnership with our funders.’
